eves that it should provide the same opportunities for instruction, participation, growth and success as any other opportunity offered by the school. The Health and Wellness Department’s goal is to assist students in taking responsibility for their own activity, fitness and health and to prepare them to be physically active, and healthy throughout their adult life. The program at all levels emphasizes the guiding principles of Self –Direction, Community Membership, Effective Communication, Problem Solving and Safety and Respect. Athletics and physical activities at IACS enhance the academic experience by fostering respectful relationships between students and amongst the school community at large. Athletics at IACS enhance the physical as well as emotional well being of an individual and teach the value of discipline, hard work and sportsmanship. Students are encouraged to compete and participate at the highest level of their ability. Accordingly, IACS provides competition and activities for all students at a variety of levels. Athletic participation is a requirement of all IACS students during two of the three athletic seasons of the school year.
Music
IACS also features a rapidly growing music program. Current student ensemble offerings include a Middle School Band and High School Chorus. These ensembles perform 3 formal concerts throughout the year, as well as informal performances at after school events for the student body. Music is also integrated in to the core curriculum for high school students. All 9th grade students take one semester of Musicology, and 10-12th grade students have the option of taking electives on music topics such as Music History, Electronic Music & Recording, and a course integrating music and literature.

The IACS Performing Arts program provides summer middle and high school camps in July. Students study dance, music, drama and art and present their work for a public audience.
