English teacher Lise Brody was able to arrange a visit by The Mirror Project on Thursday. Boston Arts Academy (BAA) teacher Dara Bayer brought a group of 6 students to lead a 2-hour workshop with some of our students. The Mirror Project is an arts group that centers the experiences of people of color and engages in critical discussion about race, class and gender through art and interactive activities. This group was formed two years ago as an Intersession learning experience. The goal of the Mirror Project is to raise consciousness and build connections with majority white suburban high schools in the hope of deepening learning and relationships across difference. The first hour included learning about systems of oppression. The second hour included creating art pieces connected to the workshop and a final reflection of what people are taking away and can use in the future. IACS students really enjoyed the experience and we are very thankful that they took the time to come visit with our students.
