HS Opening Information

August 30, 2016 10:47 am

School begins tomorrow and we are all excited to welcome everyone to the high school. A lot of preparation has been going on since teachers returned last week to make sure students have a great beginning to the year and I wanted to share a number of items that will help you get started.

Daily Schedule for the First Two Weeks of School

The last block on Tuesday is different than normal in order to balance the number of times each class meets during the first two weeks of school. All students will report to the advisory location listed below at 8am tomorrow morning so that they can receive the most recent printed copy of their schedule for the first semester. If a student would like to change a class, these requests must be made by September 14th.

Summer Reading

Book discussions will take place after lunch on Wednesday with your advisory, so please remember to bring your book with you.

2016-2017 Student and Family Handbook

The updated Student and Family Handbook is linked above and is available on our newly redesigned website as well. With the warm weather, I wanted to remind all students and families of our expectations with regards to student dress. In particular, please note that midriff tops are not allowed to be worn at school.

Dress Code

Students should dress in a way that fosters a professional, safe and respectful environment while at school. When a school administrator determines that a student’s clothing has violated the dress code or is disruptive to the school environment, the student must immediately correct the violation or the student may be sent home to dress appropriately.

  • No undergarments should show at any time (underwear, boxers, bras).
  • No clothing that is revealing (what might be appropriate for the beach is not appropriate for school).
  • The midriff (belly & lower back) should be covered at all times.
  • No bandanas.
  • Shoes should be worn at all times.
  • No sunglasses or masks can be worn.
  • Articles of clothing that make reference to drugs, alcohol, sexual innuendo, pornography, and language or symbols that are considered graphic or offensive by staff are not allowed on school grounds.
  • Clothing that a reasonable person would consider a “costume” will only be allowed to be worn on designated days. Costumes must be appropriate for the theme of the day and should be culturally sensitive.
