Under the leadership of science teacher Katharine Hinkle and some Green Team members, IACS has formed a team to participate in Envirothon this year. According to the Envirothon Website: “The Envirothon is Massachusetts’ leading natural resource education program for high school students, emphasizing hands-on, team-oriented problem solving and community involvement that prepares young people for environmental careers and active citizenship.”
The competition is held in May and the topic this year is on agricultural soil and water conservation. This past Wednesday, the team attended a workshop at UMASS Amherst to learn more about the issue and to get some training so that the students can “investigate the soil and water issues in the gardens, farms, and forests (including urban forests)” in their communities. Good luck with Envirothon!
