Dear IACS Families –
While electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) have been around for a number of years, some recent versions of these products have caused a large increase in their use by teenagers. Schools across the country have seen them showing up in school and students have used them in bathrooms and even in classrooms. These devices are obviously not allowed in schools and at IACS their possession and/or use is a suspendable offense. Vaporizers and e-cigs are essentially nicotine delivery devices, but some of them can also be used to deliver liquid THC (marijuana). While the long-term health effects of using vaporizers is still unknown, it is clear that there is no benefit to getting children addicted to nicotine, so we hope you will talk with your children about avoiding the use of vaporizers. At a minimum, we want everyone to be clear that these devices are not allowed on school property or at school events.
