Big picture

Dear IACS Community,

As I’m writing this letter, I can hear laughter erupting down the hall as new teachers and mentor teachers get to know each other in a game of "two truths and a lie". Next week our entire faculty will reconnect on campus to begin collaborative planning for this year. While it’s a busy week for sure, the energy generated from these interactions make it one of my favorite times of the year.

Of course, the vibrancy of next week also stems from seeing students and families at our ice cream socials. These events are as old as the school itself (we’re celebrating our 26th year in operation) and provide an opportunity for students to see each other as well as meet their advisor for this year. As a reminder, we will hold our High School Ice Cream social on Wednesday, August 25th and our Middle School Ice Cream Social on Thursday, August 26th. Both events begin at 5:30 pm and end at 7:00 pm.

In addition to eating ice cream and meeting advisors, students and families can complete paperwork which has been mailed home (or turn in paperwork you’ve already completed) as well as visit booths to learn how you can get involved with different school activities.

I look forward to seeing families at our Ice Cream Social events. Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe with Tropical Storm Henri!

In partnership,

Greg Orpen

Head of School

Requests for a schedule change may be made from starting Monday, 8/24 until 9/9. The schedule change request form will be sent to students on Monday, 8/24 via email. This form ensures that all requests are tracked and not lost in email.

BYOD & School Supplies

The HS is BYOD, Bring your own device. We ask all high schoolers to bring a computer to school. This letter provides an overview of why we believe this program is good for our school and how families can acquire a device to support their students. We do have Chromebooks available to borrow for a day or for the entire year through our library borrowing program. You may request one by completing this Chromebook Loaner Contract.

The High School doesn’t issue a list for school supplies. The majority of the teachers will let you choose the organizational style that works best for the student. Any specific teacher requests will be communicated the first week of school.

Planners Planners are $5 (cash or check made out to IACS) and you will be able to get them through your advisor during the first week of school or from Ms. McKiel. You are not required to have an IACS planner. You can also pick one up at Walgreens, Staples or wherever.

Parking Permits Parking. Students driving themselves to school will need to get a parking permit. Permits must be renewed each school year. The form to apply for a parking permit can be found here. Please make sure you complete all questions. Any forms you are unable to attach to the form may be brought to Ms. McKiel.
