IACS Newsletter for the week ending February 8, 2018
Dear IACS Families:
One of our annual school goals is for 100% of IACS advisories to participate in a community service project. This connects to the overarching objective of building a sense of belonging among students and nurturing students that are positive contributors to their school and community. Next week marks an exciting week at the middle school, as we have our second round of extended advisory time to work on service projects.
Some advisories will continue projects they initiated in the fall. For example, the Kapeckas and Caffrey advisories spent the fall fundraising for supplies to assemble boxes of toys and cheers for children at Lowell General Hospital. On Tuesday, they will assemble those boxes and get ready to deliver. The Pisco advisory has been dedicated to selling snacks at many community events this year with the proceeds going to hurricane relief. The Lozeau advisory has been working on an ongoing food drive and is excited to deliver those supplies and volunteer at the Merrimack Valley Food Bank.
Other advisories will be starting a new project. We will work with many local partners, including visits to local nursing homes, The Wish Project, Lowell Transitional Living Shelter, Girls Inc, and work with the Lowell Humane Society and Operation Delta Dog. Ask your child what their group is working on and stay tuned for some photos of advisories in action soon!
Many of our local partnerships have come from referrals from the local parent community. If you know of any possible future opportunities for partnerships, please reach out to Tina Lindberg, Director of Community Outreach and Advancement.
