IACS Hawk
IACS Newsletter for the week ending February, 15 2019
Dear IACS Families:
Within our advisory program, we’ve incorporated overarching themes from grades 5-12. The current theme is Balance: Self-Awareness and Restoration. Within this theme of balance, we’re working to help students build self-awareness by better understanding personal strengths and areas of growth. We’re also helping students identify and reflect on stressors and develop strategies to adapt and manage stress in healthy ways. This looks different for advisories of various grade levels, but is relevant to all age groups and important to help our students in developing healthy habits of managing responsibilities in a balanced way as we prepare them for adulthood.
This feels particularly relevant to share with you as we head into a vacation week. While we often encourage our staff to take some time to recharge over school breaks, it’s important for kids to do that, too, and their needs and what helps them recharge can vary. When we return from break, we’ll hit the ground running and be getting into the thick of Semester 2. Talking with your child about ways your family finds balance and recharges would echo our advisory theme and might be a great way to kick off the break.
Best,
Melissa Kapeckas
Middle School Principal
