Week ending January 24, 2020
Dear IACS Community,
Enrollment season is in full swing here at IACS. Attendance at Open House events have been very well attended and we continue to see a surge in applications. In fact with a month left to go until our application deadline, we’re projecting to set yet another record number of applications for next year.
When we ask Open House visitors, "How did you hear about IACS?", the most frequent answer we receive is "From another IACS family". This feedback reinforces an assumption we know to be true: Our students and our families are the most powerful endorsements of the culture and academic program we’re creating at IACS. Thank you so much for continuing to endorse IACS to the broader community by encouraging them to come to Open Houses and apply. Please be sure that these hopeful families know that in order to be included in the March 2nd lottery, we must receive their application (online or in paper) by 4 pm on Monday, February 24th.
Finally, if you know of a family interested in IACS please let them know of our last Middle School Open House on Thursday, February 13th at 6 pm or encourage them to attend an "Innovation Morning" tour date listed on our website.

Not getting the Hawk? Obviously if you are reading this message, then you’re all set. However, we occasionally get feedback from community members who say, "I’m not getting the Hawk" or "How do I get the Hawk?", please encourage them to email our main office: firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll be sure to add you to the Hawk distribution list.
Upcoming Middle School Enrollment Open House
We have an upcoming enrollment open house session at the middle school- February 13th from 6-8 pm. During the open house, tour groups cycle through sessions by teachers and students to learn about the middle school curriculum at IACS. Please spread the word to friends and neighbors.

Shadowing Option for 8th Graders
Current 8th graders heard a short presentation from the high school principal on December 19th about the high school academic program. The presentation was followed by a question and answer session with a panel of current high school students.
Students will also have the opportunity to shadow a high school student for the morning on January 29th, or February 12th. 8th graders were emailed a google form to complete if they would like to do this.
Middle School Pick Up Reminder
It is important that any student who is not signed up for extra help, an extracurricular, or After School Care be picked up by 3:15pm. If something unexpected comes up and you anticipate running late, it would be helpful to let the main office know. However, if you anticipate difficulty arriving by 3:15pm for pick up, weekly or more often, please considering signing your student for After School Care.
We would appreciate your support in helping to ensure that students are supervised and safe.

Upcoming Portfolio Prep Day
We’re excited to share some changes to our school wide portfolio system. Students will be focusing on their growth in the 4 school outcomes of self-direction, effective communication, community membership, and problem-solving and selecting projects as evidence to include in their portfolio. All portfolio work will be digital, so students will maintain a google site showcasing their growth from grades 5 to 12. At the middle school, students will have some extended work time on January 31st with the due date for the first half of the portfolio due by February 14th. Advisors will be in touch with families in early February if students have some wrap-up to do outside of school to finish and stay on track for the deadline.
