Charter Renewal: Yesterday, IACS was one of fourteen charter schools in Massachusetts to receive its renewal certificate from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). The event symbolized all of the amazing work that our students, families, staff, and Board of Trustees has completed over the past five years. Cheers!

It is hard to believe that another school year is nearly over, and yet here we are. The seniors last day of classes is today and students in grades 9-12 will be participating in Endersession next week. Endersession is a very unique opportunity for our students; I’m not aware of another school in the state that does anything quite like it. Teachers spend a significant amount of time creating one week courses (experiences is probably a more appropriate term) for students and then a brochure of all the options is published in December. Students indicate their top 5 choices in January and if they don’t get their first choice they usually end up with their 2nd choice. This year we have several travel experiences for students: Subduction in Seattle: Volcanoes & Emerging Ecologies in the Pacific Northwest; community service in the Dominican Republic; New England by Train, Washington, D.C., New York City, Boston, Exploring Florida’s Gulf Coast, and the Maine Seacoast. Students will also be participating in several outdoor adventure Endersessions that include: Backpacking the White Mountains, Golfing, Whitewater Rafting in Maine, and Disc Golf. Other Endersession courses have students learning about photography, open-fire cooking, film production, reality gaming, and sports mixed with some community service. I hope all students have a safe and memorable time during Endersession and that they appreciate one more example of why IACS is a unique and special experience for all students.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is interested in hearing from a broad range of stakeholders about Massachusetts' school and district accountability and assistance system. Coming changes in statewide assessments and federal law have provided us an opportunity to reconsider the principles of our current system, the data we use to measure school and district progress, and the types of supports and assistance we make available. This feedback form is meant to give interested parties an opportunity to weigh in on the principles we should take into consideration as we design the system. It includes a series of questions about various considerations for accountability and assistance systems and provides the opportunity for open-ended comments on a number of guiding questions. Senior Class Last Bash
We are looking for volunteers for the Last Bash. This is an all-night event that runs from 10pm-6am on June 11/12th and we want to make it fabulous for all of the seniors! Parents of juniors, this is a great opportunity to see what goes into making this event so special! Shifts run from 10pm to 6am, with setup at 9pm, and cleanup finishing by 7am. We are looking for volunteers for 2-hour shifts at a time. We are also accepting various donations, both financial and items for giveaways. Please e-mail email@example.com for more information. August Events- Ice Cream Socials, Welcome Back Luncheon
We know that summer hasn't even begun yet, but IACA has their planning hats on all year round! Come join us for our Ice-Cream Social in August!
We are looking for volunteers to help staff the event and help with ice cream supplies. We also provide our teachers with a Welcome Back Luncheon. If you are interested in helping with either of these events, please click here for our volunteer sign-up.
We are in the home stretch for our Boxtops Baseball contest! The contest ends today- but please continue to send in your Boxtops until the last day of school! We are always collecting, regardless of whether there's a contest or not. We'll announce the prizes for advisories with the highest totals next week. Thank you!
Next week is the last week we will be collecting shoes for the school year. If you have shoes to donate, there will be collection boxes in school until next Friday. If you have shoes to donate and miss the deadline, no worries! We will continue this fundraiser throughout the school year next year!

Athletics Update: Due to the amount of growth in the IACS soccer program, the Athletic Department will be adding JV teams to the program in the fall of 2016. These teams will be made up of both high school students who want focused skill development and increased playing time that would not be available to them on a varsity team as well as middle school students (7th and 8th graders) who are ready to take their game to the next level. The JV teams will play a separate schedule of games against other high school JV teams in the area. JV teams will practice three days a week and MS students on the teams are expected to attend all practices. HS students on the JV team may optionally attend varsity practice on the days when varsity is practicing and there is no JV practice. To get a spot on the JV team as a middle schooler, athletes need to attend high school soccer try-outs in August. The try-out schedule (try-outs are for those interested in JV and varsity teams) is posted on the IACS athletics webpage and varsity soccer calendars. The JV team practice schedules will be as follows for the fall season (varsity and middle school schedules can be found on their respective webpages):
High School JV Boys: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 3:15pm to 5:15pm @ IACS
High School JV Girls: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 3:15pm to 5:15pm @ IACS

Middle School News:
Middle School Advanced Band
The IACS Advanced Band traveled to their first ever music festival in North Andover on Friday, 5/27. They performed in front of judges, parents, and students from many other school bands, and participated in a clinic led by Dr. Donald Running from Bridgewater State University. The band received a silver award for their performance! They spent the rest of the day enjoying Canobie Lake Park. Come enjoy the last concert of the year on Monday night at 7 pm
Jury Volunteers Needed
Sixth and eighth grade gateway jury presentations are soon upon us! Sixth grade juries participate in a 20 minute jury presentation. Eighth graders participate in a 30 minute jury presentation. Students share pieces of work and provide evidence of why they believe they are ready to be promoted to the next grade. Successful completion of a jury presentation is a promotion requirement for sixth and eighth graders. Student juries are assessed by an IACS faculty member. A younger peer also attends to learn about the process and provide additional support. We will need many community members to volunteer as a member of a jury panel. Juries will occur during the school day on the afternoons of 5/31, 6/3, 6/6, and 6/9. If you can volunteer for 30 minutes or more on any of these days, we would love to have your participation. Please spread the word to grandparents, prospective families, or other community members as this is also a wonderful way to learn more about our middle school program.
