Dear IACS Community:

After 19 years of dedicated service to the IACS Community, Middle School Dean of Students Charlene LaRoche will be retiring this summer. Charlene’s daughter, Kristin, was a sixth grader in 1996 when the Chelmsford Public Charter School opened the doors.  Charlene still remembers scrambling as a parent volunteer to help paint classrooms by opening day. After a year of volunteering at the newly formed school, Charlene was hired and moved through various roles including instructional aide, teacher (of various subject matters and grade levels), and Middle School Dean of Students. Charlene’s math students remember her clarity, real-world applications, and sense of fairness. As an administrator, Charlene’s thoughtful leadership has always put students first, encouraging students towards reflection and growth. We appreciate Charlene’s many contributions to the IACS community over her career and wish her well in retirement.

I am also pleased to share that we have hired our next Middle School Dean of Students after a six week search process that included students, teachers, and administrators. Federico Pererya will be stepping into the role in July.  Mr. Pererya has been a 7th/8th grade math teacher and coach at IACS since 2009. He also has been in the role of Co-Director of the Andover Bread Loaf Writing Workshop at Phillips Academy since 2010. We are excited by the many assets Mr. Pererya will bring to this role.

Please join me in congratulating these two staff members as they make these transitions in the days ahead.

Warm regards,

Melissa Kapeckas

Middle School Principal
