Dear IACS Families:

It’s hard to imagine that the end of the school year is less than a month away. IMG_4708.JPG

Between now and then, there are many celebratory events that showcase the culmination of learning this year. Next week all sixth graders will make their jury presentations and eighth graders will present during the week of June 5th. Students make a formal presentation to argue why they should be promoted to the next grade, using their portfolio work and progress towards their ILP goals as evidence. We appreciate your support at home to ensure your child is practicing their presentation and ready for their big day! These presentations often feel like a rite of passage for IACS students and students take pride in their accomplishments as they complete their presentation. We are still looking for some volunteers to sit in on jury presentations; if you can give an hour or more of time during the school day, please contact the main office to be scheduled to participate.

Some other exciting events at the middle school include:

Monday, June 5th: Middle School Band and Chorus Concert 7 pm-

Come celebrate with your favorite musician!

Thursday, June 8th: Middle School Athletics Awards Ceremony 6 pm

Friday, June 9th: Middle School Art Show–

Saturday, June 10th: 8th grade Semi-Formal 7pm

    All School News

Calling all Volunteers!  On Friday, June 2nd we are inviting all community volunteers to kick off your morning with a breakfast so IACS can say THANK YOU!   It doesn’t matter if you supported an IACA event, helped a teacher with a classroom project, chaperoned a field trip, assisted with an extracurricular program like athletics, drama, after school club, etc.

The breakfast will begin at around 8:15 and will be informal by design to encourage conversation, reflections about the year, and maybe some exchange for new ideas.  While the event typically lasts an hour, guests can certainly leave early if you have commitments.    For planning purposes, it would be helpful to know if you are able to attend.  You can RSVP by sending a quick email to Greg Orpen (   Looking forward!

Volunteers needed for MS Art Show Preparation

We are looking for some help preparing and hanging work for the June 9th middle school art show. Volunteers are needed during the following times:

    Friday 6/9 from 1:00 – 7:00 to set up

Friday 6/9 from 9:00 pm – 10:00 pm for clean up

Please contact Jennifer Shaby at if you're able to help out. Thank you so much!

    Jury Volunteers Needed

Sixth and eighth grade students will be making their jury portfolio presentations this spring and we are looking for community members to sit in on the presentations. Staff members act as assessors for the presentations; we have found that it enriches the presentation to have a second adult present to both listen and ask questions of the student presenter. It’s also a lot of fun and a terrific way to learn more about student work at IACS! We are looking for volunteers during the week of May 30th and June 5th that have one or more hours free during the school day to attend a presentation. Please sign up with the main office the next time you stop in or email to sign up for a time slot. Spread the word to grandparents, neighbors, etc. that you think might be interested!

Letters of Thanks to Staff from Seniors

This year, student government members Bianca Trujillo and Jacob Barnes organized to have a letter of thanks written to each member of staff in the high school. This included teachers, coaches, office staff, and administration.  The letters were all written on behalf of the Senior Class of 2017.

This was a student led initiative and demonstrates the wonderful nature of this graduating class of 2017. Thank you to all of the seniors that took time to write the letters…they really made our day!
