IACS Newsletter for the week ending November 3, 2017
It is an exciting time for the IACS Wellness Department as we continue to deepen our focus, enhance our programming and strengthen our impact.
As part of our mission to bring more wellness opportunities to our school community, we have recently started to offer early morning yoga classes for high school students and after school classes for all staff. This is in addition to the student yoga classes we offer during the school day. The student yoga class is held before school on Tuesdays and is run by Mr. Thornton, one of our High School Wellness teachers. Mr. Thornton has designed the class to purposefully stretch the entire body, getting students moving in a relaxed way, in an effort to support academic engagement throughout the day. Students who have taken part in the classes have already reported that they feel more awake in their first period class and more energized throughout the day.
Kim Albert, part of our business office team , recently obtained her 200 hour Yoga Teacher certification! Kim is now offering free, beginner friendly, classes for staff on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Each class begins with centering activities, allowing time for staff to transition out of their work day mode into a state of mindful movement. Kim states that on many days class starts with bouts of laughter; another healing modality at work! Heather Landis, IACS librarian and yoga class participant, shares the following sentiment , "I am so grateful for the Yoga classes that Kim has given us. While it sometimes takes a little while to switch gears after a busy day, I always leave the class feeling more relaxed and centered. "
More relaxed and centered students and staff… this has to be a good thing,
we are sure of it!

School Closing Texts
IACS School Messenger System: This year IACS will use our school messenger to send texts for weather related closings/delays. To receive texts, two things must occur:
1) The first two "Contacts" listed for students in X2 must be correct, as X2 sends School Messenger in a daily report with updates.
2) You must "Opt In" to the system. Text "Y" or "Yes" to the number: 67587. You may opt out of this system by replying "STOP" to any text sent by the school.
Looking for a spot on the Christianson Bus? High School Open House: It’s that time of year again. The high school will be hosting its first Open House of the year on Sunday, November 5th, from 1 pm – 3pm. Please keep in mind two points:
Students and families who currently attend our middle school are certainly welcome and will definitely learn new information about ways in which our high school program differs from our middle school.
Word of mouth is key! While we advertise in several area newspapers, please share this events with friends and neighbors who are looking for an outstanding option for high school.

Lost and Found Bins Overflowing Our lost and found bins are overflowing. We’ll be cleaning them out and donating the items to local charities on 11/6. Please ask your student to look through them or come by school if you are missing items.
This year, in partnership with SJA and the EAA, IACS is pleased to offer students the chance to try out the sport of archery! This is an introductory opportunity for all interested middle school students. The sessions will run at St. Rita’s Parish Hall in Lowell on Thursday afternoons from 4:30-6 pm beginning January 4th and ending March 15th. Weeks 1 through 3 will consist of archery lessons and instruction, weeks 4-8 will consist of competitions and weeks 9-10 will be a tournament between the different teams.
Sessions will be taught and supervised by certified archery instructors and all equipment will be provided for athletes. As this is a shortened season and the team will only meet once per week, the Athletic Department is offering a discounted rate of $80 for participation.
Unfortunately, athletes cannot participate in this program while doing another IACS winter sport. If you are interested in joining the IACS archery team, please send the Athletic Department an email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are hopeful that we will be able to field a team this winter in this exciting new sport!"
HS Swim Team
High School Families, there is a possibility of a high school swim team co-op this winter if there is enough interest by IACS students. Please have your students check their student email and respond to email@example.com if they have interest.

Recruiting Parent Volunteers for Extracurriculars
We are looking to recruit parent volunteers to act as a team manager for Destination Imagination as well as a parent to run a Chess Club or Board Game club after school. If you are interested in either of these, please contact MS Principal, Melissa Kapeckas.
Students should be picked up promptly at dismissal or after their extracurricular activity. Extra help sessions should be arranged with teachers 48 hours in advance. Recently, we have seen an uptick of middle school students that are unsupervised on campus after hours, resulting in a safety concern.

Alyx was recognized for her kind and understanding demeanor, for being a great math tutor, and for her dedication to extracurriculars and sports. Sarah was recognized for going above and beyond what is expected, for being a great community member, and for very likely becoming the first female president some day (we all hope we don’t have to wait that long Sarah!).

GIFT CARDS! Just in time for the holidays! We are so excited to be bringing the Scrips program to IACS! Beginning in November through the beginning of December, you can order gift cards for yourself, family and friends, teachers AND help support your school! HUNDREDS of gift cards and participating vendors are available.
How it works: Order a vendor (restaurant, stores, music, movies, health and beauty) gift card through Scrips, and every card you purchase has a rebate % that is returned to our school. For example, 13% of your 99’s Restaurant gift card will be returned back to IACS! (Remember that next month when we have our Dining for a Cause at the 99’s and you’ve made TWO donations with one purchase!)
Ordering by paper (download your order form, below): Choose from gift cards on your order form and place your order by every Friday before noon, now until December 8th. Paper order forms can be dropped off at the Main Office with a check payable to IACA (please include "Scrips" in the memo) along with an additional $1.00 to help with shipping and handling. Your gift cards will be distributed the following THURSDAY at a table set up at school — more details to follow.
Ordering cards online: If you order your cards online at www.shopwithscrip.com, your orders are ALSO due every Friday before noon. Online orders will have the option of choosing a plastic gift card (standard) OR an e-card. Some denominations are only available through e-card so please review your options carefully. Online orders also have an option of paying with a check or paying with a credit card. Instructions will be posted on the IACA website by this weekend.
You must set up a family account online, even if you are ordering via paper. Go to http://www.shopwithscrip.com/ click on "Join a Scrip Program", and use the enrollment code B48FBF3B1586L. This ensures that your purchases benefit Innovation Academy. Scrips also has a customer support line at 1-800-727-4715, option 3, if you have questions regarding your online setup and purchases.
For all other order-related questions, please contact Bernadette Baird at bbairdkM@yahoo.com. Thank you!
SEE YOU NEXT WEEK AT OWEN AND OLLIES! Come to Owen and Ollie’s in Dracut on November 14 for our next Dining for a Cause event! Serving Irish and American pub fare, this family-owned restaurant is a great place to get together with friends and family. Remember to print and bring your coupon. To see their dinner menu and beer/wine selections, click here.
MONDAYS are BROTHER’S PIZZA DAYS: Ordering lunch out on a Monday? Call Brother’s Pizza next door to Innovation Academy! They’ll donate 9% of your order back to the school. Be sure to mention Innovation Academy when you place your order. Dine in or dine out orders apply.
