Dear IACS Community,

In last week’s Hawk we shared some resources that might be helpful for families. As we approach the end of our second month of school, it’s clear that our students need every ounce of our staff’s energy given the academic and social/emotional skills that need to be supported after such an incredibly challenging year. In fact when I speak to colleagues at other schools, I often hear them say "This year felt even harder than last year." So needless to say that we’ve got a long road ahead, but we’re more committed than ever to keeping our sleeves rolled up and engaging in the essential work of developing the whole child.

In the spirit of community membership, I’m sharing some ways in which you can help support IACS in this critical work. For example, our families make up a large portion of our substitute teacher pool. We also have a need for volunteers in our library. Want to get some fresh air and "get your steps in?" Well perhaps you might be able to provide extra sets of eyes at middle school recess by walking the track with another parent volunteer. The expression, "It takes a village", has certainly been used a lot over in recent years, but that’s because it’s true! So if you have the ability to help volunteer at IACS this year, please click on this link:

Invitation: Parent-Principal Advisory Council

Please complete this form if you are interested in joining the IACS Parent-Principal Advisory Council. The group will be limited to 8-10 parents (ideally with representation from each grade, 5-12). We will meet via Zoom four Tuesdays this year at 7:00pm in the evening. Meetings will last approximately 45 minutes. I’m hoping this model will be a more convenient time for parents, but I realize it won’t work for everyone.

This year the council will be meeting on 11/2, 1/4, 3/8, and 4/26. Parents that are selected are asked to commit to the council for one year.

The purpose of the council is: (1) provide input on parent school-wide concerns, (2) assist in developing short and long-term goals for the school, and (3) provide input on budget priorities. Please complete this by October 27th. Parents will be notified on October 28th about participation on the committee. Thank you. Best – Dr. Arnold, Principal

Middle School Outdoor Movie Night

Instead of the traditional Halloween Dances, we will be having an outdoor movie night for grades 5-8 on October 29th (weather permitting – rain date will be 11/5). All students were sent a survey to vote on which Halloween themed movie they would like to see. The lower parking lot will be closed to cars and students should just bring a folding chair or something else that will be comfortable to sit on in the parking lot. IACA will provide treats and students can certainly dress in costumes if they like. Parents should drop students off between 5:45 and 6:00. A pickup time will be sent to families once a movie is chosen and we know how long the movie is. We hope this will be a fun night for all of our middle school students.
