Dear IACS Community,

IACS recognizes and respects the benefits of working together with parents in regards to student wellness. We hope that you will take advantage of some the outreach aimed at helping to keep parents informed and engaged in current issues facing teens today. CampusWell, by Student Health 101, and the accompanying parent edition Student Advocate, are online subscription-based, wellness magazines that are made available for free to our high school students and to all parents. The articles are topical, easy to read and digest,and new material is added weekly. I encourage you to check it out, and to stay connected, whether via the app, Facebook or Twitter. Please note, that you can also enter to win $100 after reading an article (easy enough!). We have actually had a few parent and student winners over the last few years!!

And lastly, a reminder from the Health Office that forms and information related to student illnesses and health related dismissals can be found on the school website under the Current Student and Families tab/Health Office link.

All School News

The LRTA has asked us to let families know that the cost of riding the city bus with cash payment is $1.85 each way. IACS does have available for students, one way tickets (not available to use to transfer) available for $1. They must be bought before departing for the city bus. Tickets may be purchased from Dr. Arnold, Ms. Crystal-room 230 or Ms. MacKinnon-room 230 from 7:45am to 3pm. Student Monthly passes are currently available at the Kennedy Bus Transfer Center for $25.

30 Chances to Win! Hopefully by now all families have received the mailing about our Cash Calendar fundraiser. Tickets are $10each or 6 for $50. Your support will allow us to improve our technology here at IACS. Please click here for more information including how to win a pizza party for your advisory.

Pumpkin Run Registration is Open! Our third annual Pumpkin Run 3K Trail race and After Party including Trunk or Treating, Food and Music will be held on Tuesday October 29th. Click here for more information and to register for the race.

Fifth graders went on a field trip at the Nashua River last week. They canoed, took observations, and learned more about aquatic invertebrates can tell us about water quality.

MS Parent/Principal Advisory Council

The MS Parent/Principal Advisory Council will meet five mornings this year from 7:45-8:30 am. This year the council will be meeting on 10/17, 11/14, 1/9, 3/5, and 5/14. Parents that join the group are asked to commit to the council for one year. The purpose of the council is to assist in developing short and long-term goals for the school and to provide input and feedback. Any parent that is interested in joining should email MS Principal Melissa Kapeckas at by October 15th.

Picture Day- 10/10

Middle School Picture Day will be on Thursday, October 10th. Forms were distributed this week and can be brought back on Picture Day or you can place an order online at Select City & State and School.

hunt challenge. It was as fun as it looks!

High School News

Seniors of the Month

Congratulations to seniors Kristina Hnath and Sarah Milne for being recognized as our October Seniors of the Month. Kristina was recognized by her classmates for being kind, goofy, and hard-working. Kristina goes out of her way to help others and to make sure others feel included when they are in a new environment. Sarah was recognized as well for being a hard-working and kind student. She has been a team leader on IACS soccer and basketball teams and is always willing to help others. Sarah has interned with Ms. Landis in planning IACS activities, co-chaired the prom committee and is very involved in student government and NHS. Both of these seniors are known most of all for always having a smile for everyone! Congratulations to Kristina and Sarah!

School Pictures arrived this week and were distributed to students. There were a handful of students whose photo’s have not yet arrived and will be sent in the coming weeks. Picture re-take/make-up day will be on Tuesday, October 29th. Student ID’s are available for purchase from Crystal McKiel, room 230 for $5.


Yearbooks are now on sale! They are $35 until December 31, after which they will be $40. Please order and pay online at The online order form includes personalization options (i.e. your name and icons). The deadline for ordering is Friday, April 3, 2020.

Multicultural Potluck

On January 9th, 2020 at Exhibition Night, Student Government will be holding a Multicultural potluck event in the cafeteria. Each dish will have a list of ingredients and important facts about the culture/country. If you would like to volunteer to bring a dish to share at the potluck, please complete this Survey Link.
