Dear IACS Community,

It’s hard to believe that we’ve wrapped up our first full month of school and I’m grateful that our students, staff, and families have brought so much energy to this school year. At our Middle Schol and High School Back to School Nights, ILP conferences, and our first IACA meeting, parents have been commenting about the enthusiastic “vibe” they’ve been feeling since school started. Now comes the trickier work: keeping it up. This is another example of how the IACS Outcomes can help us maintain this great start.

Effective communication among parents, students and staff is a prerequisite to problem solving when academic assignments, not to mention extracurricular and social events, begin to mount. And when we start feeling a bit run down, being self-directed will prompt us to get the rest we need. And of course, none of this work can happen alone, which is why community membershipasks us to commit to be aware when others need support.

So thanks for a great September and here’s to an even better October!

In partnership,

Greg Orpen

Head of School

Plum Island Beach Erosion Field Work

Students from Ms. Hinkle’s Geology & Astronomy class conducted field research at Plum Island on Thursday. The students took measurements of the beach profile and then they will return in the spring to measure how any winter storms may have impacted the beach. They had beautiful weather and they were also fortunate to see Dolphins in the ocean. Ms. Hinkle said the students did such a great job that they were rewarded with ice cream on the way home!

Lecture Hall Live Returns!

Seniors Emily Lyons and Isaac Richman have taken over the reigns of Spencer and Jeff’s creation, “Lecture Hall Live”, and treated all grades to a fantastic show during advisory today. Highlights included: fun facts about new faculty, the largest # of Kahoot quiz participants ever at IACS, and the first IACS lip sync battle that featured Mr. Frothingham, Ms. Stafford (with assistance from Ms. Gonsalo, Ms. Tupaj, and Mr. Billings), and Dr. Arnold. Guess who won?? Rumors are already swirling about which teachers might be participating in the next battle…
