Roberto started his basketball career playing locally in Lowell at a young age and acquired extensive basketball knowledge through years of playing in tournaments across the US and Canada where he won a number of championships. His coaching career includes time as the head coach of the St.Patrick’s-Franco American boys basketball program of the Ecumenical Athletic Association. Roberto then went on to become the co-director and a coach for the Acre Youth Organization Basketball program in Lowell, where he remained for four years. Currently, he coaches with the NE Lady Thunder AAU program. Last winter, Roberto was also the assistant coach for boys freshman basketball here at IACS. In addition to his coaching experience, Roberto is also an IAABO 95 Basketball Official. Coach Fontanez prides himself on a philosophy of team defense and fast break offense. He excels at working with kids on their game and teaching the fundamentals along with teamwork.
